Widget not showing

Post by chihengyang »

Hi,
Not sure if it’s ok to open a new thread here or should open at somewhere else :?

The widgets are not showing on my CarPlay screen.
Is there anything I missed in the setting.
My car is BMW X3 30i 2023 and the scanner is OBDLink MX+
I’ve tried from release 1.19 to 1.20.1, but still cannot worked.

The attached screenshots are taken on 1.19, and things unchanged on 1.20.1.

Looks like the widgets are only available when trip logging is enabled.

Here’s the CarPlay screen before enabling trip logging.

And the widgets show up after enabling trip logging.

However, the tire pressure and ranges are still not showing.
(Guess due to OBD parameter parsing issue?!)

Just wondering if it's possible to decouple the widget and trip logging?
For me, the widgets (with other OBD info are cooking) are great, but trip logging is just nice-to-have.

Thank you for reporting this! This does sound like a bug; the widgets shouldn't require you to have trip logging enabled in order to use them. I'll take a look at this for the next release.

Re: tire pressure and range, we haven't found OBD parameters for those values yet: https://sidecar.clutch.engineering/supported-cars/

If/when we find them though, they'll be added here: https://github.com/OBDb/BMW-X3/blob/mai ... fault.json and then they'll show up in Sidecar for your X3 :)

@chihengyang v1.20.2 is out now which improves the onboarding flow so that CarPlay and widgets work without requiring Trip Logging to be enabled :) Thank you again for the feedback!

Oh the "Open device settings" button is interesting. I'm guessing you only enabled location while the app is in use right? I may need to tune how the app handles that case then so that it doesn't push you to change the settings further in this case.

Exactly! :D
I think it’s fine to keep it as-is since it’s not occupying a big space in the setting. :P
