Yeah between you sending ATSP7 and sending the VIN command it's about 10 seconds, which might be enough time for the scanner to settle into the new protocol.

Gotcha. Is there another build on the way? I can test it out in a few mins

I've implemented a protocol check loop that gives the scanner 1 second to settle into a chosen protocol before attempting to send the vin. Might need to increase the timeout but we'll see.

Do you plan on adding a manual override for the protocol? Something user selectable so it’s not a trial and error loop

The fundamental design principal of Sidecar is to create a net reduction of "actions taken" when it comes to using the product and interacting with the car, so my primary goal is to make the app work without requiring configuration. I will consider adding an override at some point but only once it's become clear that there isn't a reasonable alternative heuristic that can get the same thing accomplished automatically. E.g. some cars just straight up don't report their VINs, which is why I had to build in the fallback VIN behavior for the scanner.

Sidecar/v1.16.3-181 is out — hopefully a step in the right direction!

Hmm still not seeing a difference. Gave it a good 30s wait. Tried reopening app and whatnot
